The idea that you spend time on what the students need to learn versus what you are supposed to cram down their throats, is phenomenal. I wish I could have time to study my passions.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04468671509709723692noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7525941061387824183.post-192807772220099522012-09-09T13:41:38.052-04:002012-09-09T13:41:38.052-04:00Windy, I do plan to update our projects as the yea...Windy, I do plan to update our projects as the year goes. So stay tuned and I will let you know how our journey goes. I fully expect to be surprised by the unexpected from students.concretekaxhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03817234454056267050noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7525941061387824183.post-46981254988403401322012-09-08T00:42:04.800-04:002012-09-08T00:42:04.800-04:00What an interesting approach to getting the standa...What an interesting approach to getting the standards the state require to be taught met while still allowing yourself and your students to have a little “free time”. I love this! I have a few friends who teach here in Alabama and I often hear them complain about not getting to expand on topics their students are interested in because they have to meet the state standards. I wonder if they too could benefit from this approach. I would imagine that some standards here overlap as you have pointed out yours do. I will most defiantly keep this in mind when I begin teaching myself. I’d love to hear what your plan is for the end of the year and if this approach goes as planned. I like that you're being up-front with the students about the standards and including them in the process. Hopefully the fact that they know they're working to "earn more time" to explore their interests more in your class will keep them motivated.

It certainly doesn't hurt that you've had them before -- I'm in a similar situation with my group of seniors this year and it goes a long way toward starting the year on the right foot!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09025084422261929614noreply@blogger.com
